Duroos
Duroos is a young, dynamic company established in January 2008 with the aim of empowering the Arab Bedouin population of the Negev in their pursuit of academic achievement. Today, Duroos’s activities extend to six branches located in the various Arab communities in the Negev. These learning centers serve more than two thousand students who enjoy the high standards of teaching and the personal approach that enhance their studies at Duroos.
Duroos offers classes in English taught with an innovative and dynamic mother tongue approach to infants and young children. It also offers courses in English for adolescents preparing for their matriculation exams (Bagrut); for those needing enrichment or support at the high school level and for adults who want to improve their spoken English skills. Math is successfully taught to young children with methods that are intuitive and enjoyable. Courses for preparation for the Bagrut exams in the core subjects are taught as well as thorough, efficient preparation for the psychometric exams.
The progress of each student is monitored and personal attention is given whenever it is needed. Teaching materials are of the highest standard, the teachers are all very experienced in their fields. Learning at Duroos is an enjoyable experience because priority is given to material and methods that stimulate student interest and involvement.
Learning groups are kept small to maximize teacher involvement and monitoring as well as to create and maintain a feeling of intellectual camaraderie and involvement in the lessons. Duroos aims to be the Arab students’ concerned and active big brother.
Escorting students throughout their school years, providing the academic ground on which they can grow and flourish in further studies, it is the belief of Duroos that a strengthened academic basis for the Arab sector will play a major role not only in strengthening the individual but the community as a whole. Another major component of the philosophy that drives the Duroos learning center forward is its belief in the value of giving and the enormous educational power of encouragement. These are cornerstones of its educational activities. Private students as well as public and private institutions number among Duroos’s student body. We work with the Ben-Gurion University, the organization of community centers, and the Negev Institution for Peace and Development.
Duroos intends to develop and extend the services it provides. Workshops for learning skills; counseling services for higher academic studies; adult education and professional training; a careers center for its graduates are all among the targets Duroos has set itself.
It is noteworthy and relevant to add at this juncture that Fadi El Obra, the founder and general manager of Duroos, was chosen as entrepreneur of the year by the Keren Shemesh Organization of Israel and the prestigious The Marker magazine. El Obra also made it to the quarter finals in the YBI international competition for young entrepreneurs.
